Folk legend Farida Parveen buried in Kushtia

Folk singer Farida Parveen received burial at Kushtia municipal graveyard on Sunday evening. Officials conducted funeral prayers at 7:45pm with hundreds attending. Deputy Commissioner Abu Hasnat Mohmmad Arafin and Superintendent Md Mizanur Rahman joined political and cultural figures. Her remains shared the family grave with her parents Delwar Hossain and Roufa Begum. Mourners paid tribute at Fakir Lalon Shah shrine before the ceremony.

The 71-year-old artist died Saturday night from kidney complications at a Dhaka hospital. Born December 31, 1954, in Natore, she dedicated 55 years to music. Radio Rajshahi recognized her as a Nazrul singer in 1968. She mastered Lalon songs under various teachers after 1973. Her international performances spanned Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, Australia, America, and Britain.

Parveen earned the Ekushey Padak in 1987 and National Film Award in 1993. Japan honored her with the Fukuoka Award in 2008. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus expressed grief over her passing.
