Four arrested in Kisumu with a stolen pistol

Police in Kisumu arrested four suspects on Saturday and recovered a pistol stolen from an officer at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's burial in Bondo, Siaya County. Detectives from Kasagam police station raided a hideout in Mbeme after residents reported armed individuals in the area. The loaded Jericho pistol had been taken from a constable assigned to Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa's security team.

The officer reported that rowdy youths surrounded him and four colleagues at the main gate of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology around 4:30 p.m. A youth grabbed the weapon, which held 15 rounds, from its holster and escaped through the crowd. Officers could not pursue the thief due to the massive crowd at the venue.

Multiple attendees reported thefts as criminals posed as mourners. Some, locked out of the main event, caused chaos in town and robbed residents. Others forced their way into Opoda Farm, where the burial occurred, and disrupted proceedings for several minutes. Military special forces joined security personnel to restore order.
