The Forest Research Institute of Malaysia will expand its work in high-impact research, green innovation, and biodiversity conservation after 40 years as a statutory body. Director-general Datuk Dr Ismail Parlan said the institute will maintain its role in tropical forestry research, biodiversity, climate change, biotechnology, forest products, and natural resource development. FRIM hosted an open day on its main campus and at Taman Botani Kepong that attracted more than 5,000 visitors from various backgrounds.
The celebration gained significance after UNESCO designated FRIM as Malaysia's sixth World Heritage Site and Selangor's first in July. Officials planted a jelutong tree to mark the 100,000th tree in the 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign. Visitors explored research centers such as the Herbarium, Insectarium, Herbal Technology Centre, Bamboo and Rattan Gallery, and the Elephant Conservation Exhibition.
