Gambia For All Calls for Restoration of Key Charter Clauses

The Gambia For All party remains unhappy with changes made to the new Draft Constitution 2024. They say many good ideas from the 2020 version have disappeared. The National Assembly pushed back talks about this bill until June, after the government asked for more time. GFA thinks these delays hurt efforts to build a modern state with working institutions.

The country freed itself from dictatorship eight years ago but struggles to break free from bad governance systems. GFA wants major reforms plus a new social agreement through a forward-looking constitution. They believe this would help Gambia return to nation-building after being knocked off course. The party has watched closely since the 2017 National Stakeholders Conference started this process.

GFA dislikes how the new draft weakens checks against executive power. They want parliament to confirm important appointments. The party thinks presidential succession rules need fixing fast. They also want strong anti-corruption measures and leadership integrity rules. GFA calls on authorities to place national interests above political games during these talks.
