Gambia Launches Creche to Empower Student Moms

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology recently held a meeting. They talked about a plan to build childcare centers at colleges and universities in the Gambia.

Mukhtar Darboe, Kenneth Olgharo Igharo, and Fatou Janneh led the meeting. They want to help women go to school.

Mr. Darboe said that women face many problems that make it hard for them to do well. They need skills and education to help the country grow. The plan will provide child care to female students who have kids, allowing them to go to school more easily.

Dr. Igharo showed the first draft of the plan. He said that everyone should be able to go to college. He asked the people at the meeting to share their ideas to improve the plan. The World Bank is helping with money for the project. They think it is important to make things more fair between men and women.

Ms. Janneh talked about how the Ministry wants to help women in college. She said that women have a hard time going to school and taking care of kids at the same time. She believes that childcare centers will make a big difference. Her words made the people at the meeting see how important this is.

The Ministry cares about making schools better for women. They think that helping female students with kids will lead to more fairness. Mr. Darboe said, "When we help a woman, the men are safe." The child care centers are a good step toward this goal.
