A bus carrying 60 people crashed Tuesday morning on a dangerous road curve. Eighteen passengers got hurt when the Gateway Bus flipped over near Kisoro town. The driver could not steer around a sharp corner at Chanakye Red Corner. Police say Julius Owoyesigyire waited too long before hitting the brakes. The accident happened around 11 am on the Kabale-Kisoro highway.
Doctors treated the injured passengers at local hospitals. Three people suffered serious wounds from the crash. The victims came from different parts of Uganda, including Kampala and Mubende. A nine-year-old girl and an eight-month-old baby were among those hurt. Police moved the damaged bus to their station for investigation.
This marks the second Gateway Bus accident within one week. Another company bus overturned on Sunday morning in Rukiga district. That crash injured eleven passengers and killed a woman walking on the road. Police officers warned bus companies to drive more carefully on mountain roads. The winding highways in southwestern Uganda have resulted in numerous traffic accidents.
