Gavin Mansfield KC appointed High Court judge

Gavin Mansfield KC will become a High Court judge next week after serving as head of Littleton Chambers since 2018. The barrister brings more than three decades of legal experience to the King's Bench Division, along with seven years on the bench as a deputy High Court judge and recorder.

Middle Temple called Mansfield to the Bar in 1992, and he gained Queen's Counsel status 21 years later. His practice centered on employment matters, commercial disputes and partnership cases across multiple courts from employment tribunals through the Supreme Court. During his leadership at Littleton, the set expanded to 54 barristers with 13 silks while recruiting prominent practitioners like arbitrators Louis Flannery KC and Dr. Johanne Cox.

Mansfield chaired the Employment Bar Association from 2015 through 2017 and later took the helm at the Access to Justice Foundation in April 2024. Adam Solomon KC and Niran de Silva KC praised the appointment on behalf of the management committee and said his departure leaves a significant gap at chambers. Senior clerk Jason Drakeford reflected on working with Mansfield for over 20 years from his junior days through silk and into chambers leadership.
