Geo Pomona turns Harare trash into treasure

The SADC Military Health Working Group toured the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility and praised its contributions to regional health. Zimbabwe Defence Forces Brigadier General Godfrey Mutetse, incoming chair of the group, said the project supports sustainable development goals through proper waste handling. He noted the facility promotes important concepts like reduction, recycling, and reuse rather than simply discarding collected materials.

Outgoing chair Brigadier General Jackson Kasela from Zambia expressed surprise at the clean environment, mentioning he could eat next to the waste processing area. The facility helps maintain healthy living conditions for citizens through effective street waste collection and processing. CEO Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya led the tour and explained how waste management directly connects to public health concerns.

Several countries, including Lesotho, Botswana, and Madagascar, have shown interest in partnering with Geo Pomona on waste management initiatives. The company already works with local authorities in Mutare and Masvingo. The visit demonstrated how modern waste processing facilities can transform traditional dumpsites into clean operations that benefit community health and environmental protection.
