George Russell dodges penalty after yellow flag scare

George Russell retained his pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix after stewards cleared him of yellow flag violations that could have resulted in a 10-place grid penalty. The Mercedes driver faced investigation alongside Pierre Gasly, Gabriel Bortoleto, Yuki Tsunoda, and Nico Hulkenberg after officials questioned whether they properly slowed for yellow flags when Gasly's car stopped on an escape road. Officials determined Russell lifted off the throttle and reduced speed appropriately under the caution conditions.

Russell acknowledged Singapore's difficult track record for him but said he would not become overconfident despite starting from the premier grid position. The British driver credited teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli's performance for providing valuable setup data throughout the weekend. Russell expressed concern about defending against Max Verstappen, whom he described as skilled at race starts and aggressive overtaking maneuvers heading into the first corner.
