Ghana's Björkegren blames luck as Black Queens choke vs Mali

Ghana coach Kim Lars Björkegren slammed his team's wasteful finishing after they blew multiple scoring opportunities against Mali at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Queens managed just a frustrating 1-1 stalemate when victory seemed within their grasp at Stade Municipal de Berkane. Alice Kusi had given Ghana the perfect start by burying her chance during the opening six minutes of play. The striker's early strike sent the team into halftime with a crucial one-goal advantage that should have secured three vital points. Mali refused to surrender and struck back through Aissata Traoré during the second period.

The Swiss tactician believes his players squandered enough clear-cut chances to claim a comfortable victory on Friday night. Björkegren insists Ghana would triumph nine times out of ten if they faced identical circumstances again. The disappointing result leaves the Black Queens sitting third in Group C after suffering a crushing 2-0 defeat against South Africa during their tournament opener. Tanzania represents their final opportunity to secure progression into the knockout rounds when both teams clash on Monday evening. The crucial Group C encounter kicks off at 19:00 GMT with everything to play for between two desperate nations.
