Guild Wars 2 fans seethe over ArenaNet’s pricey Visions of Eternity

ArenaNet revealed Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity as the next major content expansion for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game. The developer plans an October 28 release date for the expansion, which continues the studio's commitment to annual major updates. Players may purchase the base edition for $24.99, while deluxe and ultimate versions cost $49.99 and $74.99 respectively. Each tier provides different collections of bonus items and premium currency. The announcement follows the completion of updates for the previous Janthir Wilds expansion.

The narrative centers around Castora, a mysterious island rich with magical energy that attracts the attention of the villainous Inquest organization. Players will assume the role of the Commander and work alongside allies to investigate and thwart the Inquest's schemes. Two explorable regions will become available at launch, with additional maps scheduled for release throughout 2026. The expansion will introduce new raid encounters and convergence content. Extended storylines and legendary equipment will arrive through post-launch updates.

Every character profession will receive fresh elite specialization options that expand customization possibilities through new traits and abilities. Beta testing for these specializations runs from August 20 through August 27 for all account holders. The aquatic Skimmer mount gains three additional mastery progression paths. Homestead housing systems will expand with beach locations and layout sharing features. Game Director Josh Davis emphasized the expansion's focus on improving existing systems while adding substantial new content for the decade-old game.
