Guruve breathes easy as serial killer Anymore Zvitsva is caught

The hunt for a serial killer terrorizing a rural district has ended with an arrest. Suspected murderer Anymore Zvitsva was captured in Guruve after a week-long joint operation by police and the army, shot in the leg while hiding in a garden. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of the thirty-two-year-old, who is now under guard, receiving medical treatment. Zvitsva is linked to a series of brutal attacks that left communities in Mashonaland Central living in fear, with villagers abandoning fields and sleeping in groups for safety.

The violence included the killing of five family members at Ona Mapeto Farm, where a grandmother, her adult children, and two young grandchildren were attacked. He is also accused of murdering Pamela Chipangura and her two children in Zimuna Village, and a separate attack that claimed the life of a fifty-five-year-old woman and a six-month-old infant. Provincial Minister Christopher Magomo stated the relief felt by communities, noting the attacks resulted in at least nineteen deaths with two people still missing.

Police credited cooperation from the public for providing crucial information during the intensive search, which involved ground patrols and aerial surveillance. Authorities plan to formally charge Zvitsva with multiple counts of murder, attempted murder, and rape once he is discharged from the hospital. While the arrest brings a measure of relief, the district faces a long recovery from the trauma that reshaped daily life and shattered families.
