Hajji Muyanja Mbabali beats Kagabo Twaha in Bukoto South primary

Hajji Muyanja Mbabali reclaimed political power after defeating sitting legislator Kagabo Twaha during National Resistance Movement primaries for Bukoto South Constituency. The former parliamentarian captured 2,965 votes while Twaha secured 1,500 ballots in the heated contest. Mutesasira Gonzaga earned 320 votes, and Rogers Matovu received 37 votes among other candidates. Abasi Mubiru announced the results Thursday evening at the district electoral commission office. Mbabali previously represented the constituency before losing his seat during the 2021 elections.

The victor thanked supporters and pledged comprehensive development across Bukoto South following his comeback victory. Twaha served one term as a member of parliament and maintained connections with the Patriotic League of Uganda organization. His campaign struggled against Mbabali's extensive community networks throughout Lwengo District. The defeated incumbent had positioned himself as a youth advocate but faced criticism regarding service delivery. Election officials reported peaceful voting across all polling stations within the constituency boundaries.
