Harare Cops Suspended for Taking Bribes

Two cops in Harare were caught on video taking money from drivers. Now, they're off the job while their bosses investigate. The police department also wants to find all the drivers who gave them the money.

The police caught one bus driver and his helper last week and are still looking for others involved in this mess. The two police officers, James Chifamba and Trymore Mukunza had to go to court. The judge, Mrs. Gofa, kept them in jail because they broke the law while working as cops.

After the video spread around, the police grabbed two buses and arrested their workers. The top police spokesman, Paul Nyathi, says they're still working on the case. The video showed the cops taking money from drivers on the Harare-Mutare Road near Mabvuku.

The police caught Tinashe Madzima, who drives a bus, and Ishmael Gonyora, his helper, in Ruwa on November 6. Both men were seen in the video giving money to the cops. The police also took their buses—both Toyota Hiace vans.

The police wanted to catch everyone else who was involved. They're asking drivers not to give money to cops anymore. Anyone who sees someone giving or taking bribes can call or text the police to report it. They can also walk into any police station to tell them about it.
