Harare city leaders face new trouble over housing plots. People say these leaders took fancy house plots for themselves in rich areas. This breaks the rules.

The government has clear rules. City leaders can only get plots in the areas they serve. If their area has no space, they can pick a spot next door. But many leaders took land in rich places like Borrowdale and Mt Pleasant instead.
Some people inside the city offices say only friends of Mayor Jacob Mafume get the best plots. This makes other leaders angry. But finding plots in north Harare is hard because private people own most of that land.
The housing leader, Blessing Muroiwa, says these stories are false. He claims everyone follows the rules. He says he waits for a plot in his own area like everyone else.
But this kind of thing happened before. In 2022, city leaders bought business plots very cheap and sold them for lots more money. They also gave away 5,000 plots before the 2023 vote to make people like them.
