Heavy rain in South Korea leaves 10 dead and nine missing, causing widespread damage

Torrential downpours spanning five consecutive days across South Korea have claimed ten lives and left nine individuals unaccounted for. Ministry of the Interior and Safety officials confirmed fatalities occurred in multiple provinces by Sunday morning at 6 a.m. Osan within Gyeonggi Province recorded casualties alongside Seosan and Dangjin in South Chungcheong Province. Sancheong in South Gyeongsang Province also reported deaths from the severe weather conditions. Missing persons remain concentrated in Gwangju's Buk-gu district and Sancheong County.

Infrastructure damage reached 1,920 documented cases across the nation. Floodwaters inundated 730 roadways while soil erosion affected 168 separate locations. River facilities sustained damage at 1,853 sites, and agricultural lands flooded at 73 farms. Emergency evacuations displaced 12,921 residents nationwide by 4 a.m. Sunday morning. Nearly 4,638 evacuees remain unable to return to their homes due to persistent safety concerns and ongoing flood conditions.
