India rejects Bangladesh claims, blames Yunus regime

India rejected accusations from Bangladesh Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Friday and stated that the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government repeatedly deflects blame for domestic problems. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal dismissed the claims as false and said Bangladeshi authorities should examine local extremist actions against minorities in Chittagong Hill Tracts rather than accusing external forces of causing unrest in Khagrachari district.

Violence erupted on Sept. 28 after protests demanded justice for a gang-raped Marma schoolgirl, and resulted in deaths and injuries among indigenous communities. Human rights organizations criticized the interim government's handling of minority protection and displayed evidence of religious persecution at the United Nations in Geneva on Wednesday. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council condemned Yunus for calling Hindu persecution claims baseless while minority violence escalates nationwide.
