Josh Sawyer says Cyberpunk 2077 romances top RPG charts

Game designer Josh Sawyer thinks Cyberpunk 2077 has the best romance stories among role-playing games. The creator behind Fallout New Vegas and other popular games shared his thoughts with PC Gamer recently. Sawyer works at Obsidian Entertainment and knows how to build good relationships between characters. He believes CD Projekt Red did something special with their romance system. The way they handled romantic scenes stands out from other games.

Most role-playing games put romantic talks right next to other party members at camp locations. Sawyer finds this approach feels strange and awkward for players. Cyberpunk 2077 takes a different path that works much better. Characters like Judy spend private time with players away from everyone else. These moments happen without other companions watching or listening.

The game builds natural timing between romantic encounters that feels realistic. Players finish activities with characters like Judy and have meaningful conversations together. She leaves afterward and players must wait before seeing her again. Time passes and story progress happens before the next romantic scene occurs. This pacing makes relationships feel more genuine and personal.

Sawyer admits that big studios like CD Projekt Red create better cutscenes than his team at Obsidian. Companies like Larian and BioWare also excel at making impressive romantic scenes. He would copy Cyberpunk 2077s approach if he designed romance systems for future games. The method creates content made specifically for two characters without outside interference.
