Khulna University honors Mir Mugdho as martyr’s legacy fuels the July Uprising movement

Khulna University marked the first anniversary of the death of former mathematics student Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho through campus-wide commemorative events. Police fatally shot Mugdho while he distributed water to protesters during anti-discrimination demonstrations at Uttara Azampur in the capital. His killing energized resistance movements across Bangladesh as students and citizens mobilized against authoritarian forces. The university community gathered for memorial services honoring his sacrifice and other victims of the historic uprising.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim led a tribute ceremony at Liaquat Ali Auditorium, attended by faculty and student activists. University officials established permanent memorial installations and designated July 18 as the official recognition day for the fallen student. Speakers emphasized that protesters died pursuing justice and national transformation. Religious services at both the campus mosque and temple offered prayers for the martyred demonstrators. The institution pledged continued efforts to preserve Mugdho's legacy as an inspiration for future generations.
