Afro-house DJ and producer Nkosentasha Bakani Hikwa has received his first recognition at the Bulawayo Arts Awards through a nomination for Outstanding Club DJ. The artist, known professionally as Kotwane Hikwa, began experimenting with Kwaito remixes during his school years after developing an interest in music through his grandfather's jazz collection and radio broadcasts.
Kotwane pursued formal training in Digital Music Composition while based in South Africa before returning to Zimbabwe to perform at venues including Club Forty 40 and The Smokehouse. He has since expanded his role beyond performance to include mentoring emerging DJs and teaching aspiring producers about building sustainable careers in the music industry.
The nominee views the award recognition as validation of his efforts to strengthen Zimbabwe's creative community while promoting original artistic expression. He continues working to inspire younger talent through his performances, production work, and educational initiatives across the country's entertainment sector.
