Magashi claims Buhari's corrupt-ridden era was unblemished

Retired Major General Bashir Magashi honored the memory of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a leader who prioritized national service above personal interests. The former Defense Minister characterized Buhari as an unwavering advocate for governmental transparency and ethical conduct throughout his career. Magashi emphasized the deceased president's commitment to fighting public sector corruption during both his military and civilian administrations. Buhari governed Nigeria as military head from 1984 to 1985 and later served two terms as democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. The former leader passed away July 13, 2025, at a London medical facility following prolonged health challenges.

Magashi worked directly under Buhari's administration between 2019 and 2023, providing him personal insight into the president's character and governing philosophy. The retired general praised Buhari's global reputation for maintaining high ethical standards and principled decision-making. He described the late president as a unifying figure who embodied Nigeria's potential for national cohesion despite regional differences. Magashi reflected on their shared military background and mutual dedication to strengthening Nigerian institutions. The tribute highlighted Buhari's legacy as a leader who earned international respect through consistent moral leadership and transparent governance practices.
