Magaya jailed for rape, fraud cases shake flock

Prophet Walter Magaya has called on congregation members to participate in an upcoming religious gathering despite facing criminal charges that have left him detained. The spiritual leader sent an audio recording to the PHD Ministries WhatsApp group describing his imprisonment as part of a process meant to strengthen his faith and benefit his ministry. Magaya was taken into custody on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at his prayer site and is awaiting trial on charges that include five rape counts and 13 fraud counts. His spouse, Tendai Magaya, received bail of $500 from Harare regional magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025. The magistrate determined she lacked the authority to release the prophet on bail for the rape allegations because they fall under serious offense classifications.

Church leadership confirmed the Night of Turnaround service will take place as originally scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at the ministry headquarters in Waterfalls, Harare. PHD Overseer Admire Mango stated the congregation respects legal processes while maintaining confidence in divine oversight. The annual gathering typically attracts thousands of attendees from neighboring nations. On Sunday, senior leader Timothy Marasha referenced biblical scripture about trials preceding spiritual missions during his message to worshippers.
