The head of a Malaysian education group says schools did not try to hide bullying cases. Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki leads Majlis Amanah Rakyat and spoke about problems at boarding schools. He visited Besut MRSM after hearing about student attacks. The chairman said bullying goes against school values. Staff members will face punishment if they try to cover up such cases.
A school worker stopped the bullying before it became worse. The warden saw one student hit another student. School officials sent the case to a discipline committee right away. The group confirmed that physical bullying had happened. Asyraf said he felt sad and disappointed about the incident.
Police arrested seven students to help with their investigation. Officers took six Form Three students and one Form Five student into custody. All the arrested students remain in jail during the probe. A Form Two boy reported the bullying to police after senior students hurt him. The attacks happened at the school dormitory last Tuesday.
The older students made the victim sit in an awkward position for 40 minutes. They put a slipper on his head during the punishment. The bullies also punched the boy in his stomach. They slapped his face during the attack. Police chief Azamuddin Ahmad shared details about the investigation.
