Mayor and Former MP Battle Over Kwekwe Tuck-Shops

The mayor of Kwekwe City, Albert Zinhanga from CCC, got into a public argument with former MP Vongaiishe Mupereri from Zanu PF. This happened at the opening of a new revenue hall in Mbizo 15. The State Minister Owen Ncube came as a special guest.

Mayor Zinhanga asked Minister Ncube to help stop illegal shops from operating in the city. He explained that these shop owners avoid paying fees to the city. They often claim protection from political figures when city workers try to collect money from them.

Mupereri stepped up and admitted he supports these illegal shops. He made it clear he would keep backing the shop owners unless the city gives them proper places to run their businesses. He thinks these people need to make money to feed themselves.

The argument kept going back and forth. The mayor pointed out these shops pop up everywhere, even in wrong places. He wants control over the situation. But Mupereri stayed firm. He told everyone he sees this as a political issue. He said the shops would stay open until the city finds good spots for these small business owners.

This clash shows how local business rules mix with politics in Kwekwe City. The mayor wants order and payment of fees. The former MP wants to protect small traders who need to make a living.
