MEC Starts Voter Transfer Phase Two on March 5

The Malawi Electoral Commission plans to start the second phase of voter transfers on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. This important activity will continue through Friday, March 7, 2025. Voters can make changes at centers across fourteen locations, including Rumphi, Nkhata Bay, Likoma, Kasungu, Kasungu Municipality, Dowa, Mchinji, Ntcheu, Zomba, Zomba City, Blantyre, Blantyre City, Thyolo, and Luchenza Municipality. Each person must visit the exact registration center where they want to cast their ballot during the September 16 election.

MEC official Sangwani Mwafulirwa warned that no one can transfer their voting location after this designated period ends. He strongly urged all registered voters who expect to be away from their original centers on election day to complete transfers immediately during the open transfer window. The Commission requires every voter to appear personally at centers because fingerprint verification forms part of the process. No one else can complete this task on behalf of any voter.

People who cannot find their voter certificates or National ID cards should not worry about their ability to transfer. These individuals can still change their voting location by presenting themselves at their chosen registration center. MEC staff will help them complete the necessary steps even without these documents. The Commission remains committed to making sure all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote at convenient locations.

Looking ahead, MEC has scheduled the third phase of transfers from March 13 through March 15, 2025. This final transfer period will serve different areas, including M'mbelwa District, Lilongwe, Lilongwe City, Mangochi District, Mangochi Municipality, Mwanza, Chikwawa, and Nsanje. Voters living in these regions should mark these dates on their calendars to avoid missing their chance to update their voting locations. The Commission encourages everyone to participate actively in preparation for the upcoming election.
