Meherpur students swap phones for poetry at Shuvosangho event

Students gathered at Meherpur Government College's green courtyard for a literary gathering organized by Bashundhara Shuvosangho's district chapter. The event aimed to foster a stronger reading culture among local college students. Yadul Momin, who serves as both adviser and Kaler Kantho correspondent, joined organizing secretary Anik Hasan in presenting verses from Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali collection. District president Rafiqul Alam Bakul presided over the session while general secretary Nafiul Islam managed proceedings. Multiple students participated by reciting selected poetry pieces from the celebrated work.

Momin addressed participants about the impact of social media on study time and emphasized the lasting advantages of reading. He noted that accomplished individuals consistently reserve time for books and encouraged students to develop similar practices. Bakul shared memories of his youth, when literature served as the primary form of entertainment before digital platforms emerged. He urged attendees to temporarily abandon mobile devices each day for book engagement. Organizers are committed to arranging monthly reading sessions to maintain student interest in literature.
