Meta's new display glasses challenge Apple, analyst says no

Meta introduced three smart glasses products at Connect 2025 conference. The Ray-Ban Display features an integrated screen capable of text reading and video viewing for $799 with Neural Band controller. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 offers doubled battery life and ultra HD recording capabilities. Oakley Meta Vanguard targets athletes with Garmin device integration and real-time performance insights. Meta prices these products starting at $379 for basic models.

Oppenheimer analyst Martin Yang believes Meta's advances pose minimal threat to Apple's wearables ecosystem. Yang estimates Ray-Ban Display will achieve only 150,000 to 200,000 unit sales over two years due to its 67-gram weight and limited third-party app support. Apple Vision Pro has struggled with just 500,000 units sold since early 2025 because of its $3,499 price point and insufficient app ecosystem. The analyst's assessment overlooks Apple's discontinued AR glasses project and potential Vision Pro abandonment. Meta's continued progress may challenge Apple's market position more significantly than Yang suggests.
