Min Aung Hlaing orders revival of aging Gyoungwaing Shipyard in Yangon region

Myanmar's military chief examined a deteriorating shipyard facility yesterday afternoon in Yangon Region. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing toured the Gyoungwaing Shipyard with regional administrators and military commanders. Officials briefed him about the facility's operations and historical background during the visit. The leader directed staff to accelerate renovation work and modernize equipment at the aging dock. He emphasized maintaining cleanliness standards while upgrading the maritime facility.

The shipyard began construction during the 1981-1982 budget period before becoming operational five years later. Between 1995 and 1999, workers serviced 49 vessels at the location. Operations ceased afterward due to mechanical problems and insufficient funding. The extended closure has caused structural damage throughout the complex. The facility resumed limited services under direct military supervision.
