Mityana Cop Dies in Crash from Parked Truck

A police officer died last night after hitting a broken-down truck on the Mityana-Mubende highway. The crash happened yesterday at 8:00 PM near Buswabulongo. The 48-year-old officer, Inspector Namanya Nelson, headed the Kisita Field Force Unit detachment before his death. He served the police force in the Kassandra district until this terrible accident cut his life short.

The crash involved a white and blue Renault truck with license plate UBJ 394S / UAD 535Q, and a police motorcycle marked UP 8016. The truck had broken down earlier that day while heading toward Mubende. The driver parked it along the roadside but failed to put up any warning signs. Inspector Namanya rode straight into the back of the truck because he couldn't see it sitting there.

Medical staff rushed the badly hurt officer to Mityana Hospital right after the crash. Doctors tried to save him, but he died as soon as he arrived. Namanya lived at Kisita Barracks with his family before the accident. His fellow officers remember his years of dedication and service to the police force.

Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala blamed the crash on clear negligence. She told reporters the truck driver parked carelessly without thinking about other people using the road. Her team started investigating immediately after learning about the tragedy. They plan to arrest the truck driver who left the scene after the crash.

Road deaths keep rising across Uganda for motorcycle riders. Police reports show 1,720 riders died last year on roads throughout the country. This number jumped up 13.2% compared to the year before. These statistics worry traffic safety experts because they show increasing danger for anyone riding motorcycles.

Kawala asked all drivers to carry reflector triangles for emergencies. She believes these simple safety tools can prevent similar deaths. The police department wants everyone to understand how dangerous unmarked vehicles become, especially after dark when visibility drops dramatically.

Police data reveals crashes with parked vehicles made up 1.6% of all road accidents last year. Safety officials believe simple warning signals could stop most of these crashes. Many drivers forget other people can't easily spot vehicles sitting on dark roadsides. This simple mistake turns vehicles into deadly roadblocks.

Traffic officers documented everything at the crash scene during their investigation. The body of Inspector Namanya waits at the Mityana Hospital morgue for doctors to examine him. Police continue searching for the missing truck driver as they put together all the details about how this tragedy happened. They promise full answers about the circumstances surrounding this preventable death.
