Mnangagwa hails top ag winners

Zimbabwe's First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa, recognized women and young people driving agricultural advancement at Sunday's awards ceremony in Harare. Rutendo Mangudya from Manicaland Province won top honors and received a tractor for her dairy, poultry and grain operations with value-added processing.

Mnangagwa launched the combined awards to unite two groups vital to farming productivity. She promotes women through the Agric4She programs launched in 2022, which support agricultural value chains. The initiative extends to specialized projects covering bananas, poultry and fisheries.

Winners included Terrence Dhadheu from Mashonaland West Province, who took second place with tobacco, maize, and cattle farming. The Ganye brothers from Mashonaland East Province earned third place for their value-added products. Recipients collected cash prizes, farming supplies and chemicals.

Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka called for concentration on processing raw materials into finished goods. Youth Minister Tino Machakaire said President Mnangagwa's empowerment strategy increases participation by younger farmers. Harare Provincial Affairs Minister Charles Tawengwa noted the capital region's location benefits manufacturing connections with neighboring agricultural provinces.
