Modi begins UK and Maldives visit to boost ties and attend Maldives independence day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his diplomatic journey to Britain and the Maldives on Wednesday. The leader expressed optimism about strengthening partnerships with both nations through productive discussions. His British visit spans July 23-24 following an invitation from Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Modi will conduct his fourth official trip to the United Kingdom during this period.

Bilateral talks with Starmer will focus on expanding economic cooperation between the countries. The Indian leader also plans to meet King Charles III during his stay. Modi then travels to Maldives for a state visit from July 25-26 at President Mohamed Muizzu's request. This marks his third visit to the island nation and represents the first such diplomatic engagement during Muizzu's presidency.

The timing holds special significance as Modi will serve as Guest of Honour at Maldives' 60th Independence Day ceremony. Both countries celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations this year. Modi anticipates meaningful results that will benefit citizens and advance India's regional partnership strategy.
