Mombasa–Namanga Road claims three more lives in Athi River crash

A fatal collision claimed three lives Saturday when their truck struck the Mombasa-Namanga Road interchange wall in Athi River, Machakos County. The vehicle's operator lost control meters from Shalom Community Hospital before the deadly impact occurred. All occupants perished immediately from the crash injuries. Athi River Police Station officers arrived at the scene and transported the deceased to the mortuary facility. Public members assisted authorities in extracting the trapped bodies from the damaged cabin.

This tragedy marks the latest in a series of deadly incidents along the same stretch of highway. A pedestrian fatality occurred three days earlier near Kitengela's KCB branch on Namanga Road. Residents burned a lorry on July 15 after it killed a mother and child riding a motorcycle outside Kitengela town. The truck driver suffered serious injuries from a public assault following that incident. Police Commander Simon Lokitari confirmed discussions with KeNHA officials regarding safety improvements and speed control measures for the problematic road section.
