President Museveni announced on Saturday a financial support program targeting university graduates who remain jobless two years after graduation, extending government assistance schemes during a campaign event in Namisindwa District. The initiative will distribute startup funding through regional savings cooperatives, mirroring the Presidential Skilling Hubs model that provides 50 million shillings annually to district-level lending groups. Museveni also disclosed plans to allocate an extra 15 million shillings for local officials seeking credit, with additional resources earmarked for religious figures, cultural leaders, motorcycle taxi operators, and urban youth.
Bunambutye East County legislator John Musila endorsed the proposal, citing numerous unemployed degree holders in the district. Namisindwa Youth Councillor Ema Bwayo supported the concept while recommending accompanying business training and entrepreneurship education. The fund would join existing programs, including Emyooga, Parish Development Model, Youth Livelihood Fund, and disability assistance initiatives as part of efforts to address unemployment before the 2026 elections.
