Museveni Son Brags He Is Holding Activist In Basement

The son of Uganda leader Yoweri Museveni claims he keeps an opposition member in his home. Military chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba posted pictures online of Eddie Mutwe shirtless after armed men grabbed Mutwe last weekend. Kainerugaba wrote that Mutwe sits in his basement right next to other threats against him. The police earlier denied having Mutwe, who works as a bodyguard for the main opposition leader Bobi Wine.

The Human Rights Commission ordered Kainerugaba to free Mutwe, who they say has been held against the law since April 26. Critics accuse President Museveni of pushing his son up through military ranks to take power later, despite his harmful remarks on social media. These statements once included threats to invade Kenya and harm Wine, who came second in the last election. Museveni has run Uganda since 1986 and plans to another term next January.

Wine claims the army raided his party office ahead of a meeting to support Mutwe. Many critics say the government takes people illegally to stop anyone who speaks against them. Another opposition leader named Kizza Besigye has been locked up since November on treason charges after running against Museveni four times.
