President Yoweri Museveni gave a speech in Isingiro. He wants the people there to use irrigation. This means using water to help crops grow.
Museveni talked about Dr. Florence Muranga. She is from Bushenyi and uses irrigation to grow bananas. She gets 53 tonnes of bananas from one acre of land in a year, while other farmers only get 5 tonnes.
"In Brazil, they get even more," Museveni said. "They get 80 tonnes in an acre."
Museveni spoke at a church event to thank Minister Bright Rwamirama and his family. Rwamirama is also a member of parliament.
The president warned against using wetlands in the wrong way. He said wetlands provide water for irrigation if they are maintained.
He gave tips on how to use land well and wanted people to use the "4-acre model" for farming.
Grow coffee on one acre—plant fruit trees on another. Use one acre for cows. Grow food on the fourth acre. At your house, raise chickens and pigs if you live near a swamp, farm fish.
"You can also grow cotton and maize," he said. "But you need a big piece of land for those."
Museveni does not want people to divide their land into small parts. He thinks families should keep land together, as they can manage it better that way.
The president thanked Rwamirama for bringing people together. "I am glad you are all united here," he said.
Museveni promised to give land for factories. He wants to make one of the health centers bigger.
He gave money to the church. Rwamirama thanked him for helping his family and the area.
A local leader said everyone supports Museveni's party. He thanked the president for helping Isingiro.
Many important people came to the event. There were government ministers and members of parliament.
