Museveni vows Kasese airport and SGR line

President Museveni told crowds in Kasese that his government will build an international airport there and run a new Standard Gauge Railway line to the western district. The promises came during his campaign stop at Nyakasanga Playground, where he said better transport links would help tourism and cross-border trade. He mentioned the airport would come after the one being built in Hoima for the oil sector.

The president talked up ongoing road fixes across western Uganda, pointing to highways like Fort Portal to Kasese and routes feeding into Queen Elizabeth National Park. He said districts only getting around 1 billion shillings a year for road maintenance will get extra equipment to handle their infrastructure. Tourism brings in over 1.2 billion dollars annually, and western Uganda pulls the biggest share of visitors because of spots like the Rwenzori Mountains and gorilla tracking areas.

Museveni framed Kasese as stable despite sitting next to conflict-heavy eastern Congo, and he warned officials accused of stealing Parish Development Model cash that prosecutions are coming.
