Nation Mourns Beloved News Legend Madhimba

Former ZBC broadcaster Joseph Madhimba died today in Okahandja, Namibia. He battled health issues that started with a stroke last year. NewsHawks first reported his death on social media early morning. Madhimba became famous as a top newsreader at Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation after independence in 1980. He earned respect for his calm voice and professional style on air.

Madhimba studied journalism in France and worked with AFP before returning home. He began his ZBC career as a sub-editor before moving up to lead newsreader. Many consider him part of a golden age of Zimbabwean broadcast journalism alongside colleagues like Grey Tichatonga and Busi Chindove. After his broadcasting career ended, Madhimba moved to Namibia, where he taught at the Polytechnic.

He later worked in finance but kept his passion for media education. His health problems started early last year, and he spent almost 12 months hospitalized. Former colleagues and students praised his talent across social media platforms. Funeral plans remain unannounced as family members make arrangements.
