NBM and Press Trust bring solar power to Mangochi and Balaka health, education sites

National Bank of Malawi plc and Press Trust delivered solar power systems to rural institutions across Mangochi and Balaka districts this week. The organizations installed electricity and water pumping equipment at Nankumba Health Centre on Tuesday, addressing chronic power shortages that hampered medical services. Community members previously carried water from home to access clinic treatments, creating significant hardships for patients seeking care. The K17.5 million system powers lighting, refrigeration, and medical equipment while providing clean water access. Healthcare officials praised the partnership for bridging service delivery gaps in underresourced areas.

The following day brought solar electricity installation at Njerenje Community Day Secondary School in Balaka district. More than 1,300 students benefit from extended study hours and improved classroom conditions through the new power system. School administrators can print examination papers and operate teaching equipment more efficiently with reliable electricity access. The installations form part of a broader K280 million Clean Energy Initiative targeting seven rural health and education facilities across Malawi.
