NCP goes for EC registration with Shapla as pick

The National Citizen Party wants to become an official political group. Leaders handed their paperwork to the Election Commission today. They asked for three different symbols to represent them during elections. The water lily flower called Shapla stands as their top choice. Party boss Md Nahid Islam led the team that delivered the documents.

The group also requested pen and mobile phone symbols as backup options. Officials received the application papers around four this afternoon. Today marked the last chance for new parties to submit their forms. The Election Commission gave them a receipt showing they met the deadline. Party leaders said they fulfilled every requirement needed for registration.

Many other political groups rushed to the commission office today. At least two dozen parties turned their applications during the final hours. The original deadline was April but officials extended it until June after groups asked for more time. Each party had to pay five thousand taka just to apply.

The National Citizen Party started after major protests last year forced out the previous government. Leaders believe they can win elections with their flower symbol. They need official approval before they can run candidates for parliament. The commission will check all applications to see which groups qualify for registration certificates.
