Nintendo Switch 2 sales top 6 million in seven weeks as Mario Kart World leads software

Nintendo reported that Switch 2 hardware sales reached six million units during the seven weeks following its market debut. The gaming company achieved 5.82 million unit sales by the conclusion of its June quarter. Software purchases totaled 8.67 million copies across the platform during this period. Mario Kart World dominated game sales with 5.63 million copies sold. Nearly every Switch 2 owner purchased the popular racing title.

Supply shortages continue affecting availability across multiple regions worldwide. Nintendo acknowledged customer frustration regarding hardware scarcity and promised production improvements. The company maintains its conservative projection of 15 million Switch 2 units for fiscal year 2026. This forecast also targets 45 million software sales during the same timeframe. Manufacturing capacity expansion remains a priority for meeting consumer demand.

Financial results showed dramatic revenue growth during the first quarter. Net sales increased from 246.6 billion yen to 572.3 billion yen compared to the previous year. This represents a 132.1 percent jump in quarterly earnings. However, intellectual property revenue declined slightly due to reduced income from The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The decrease amounted to 4.4 percent compared to earlier projections.
