NRM Charges Buganda to Win Back Voters

The NRM party has started early campaign efforts across Buganda to win back voters before the 2026 elections. NRM leaders want to take back control after losing many seats to Bobi Wine's NUP party in 2021. This marked a big change for the region that helped bring NRM to power forty years ago.

During the last election, NUP grabbed most parliament seats in Buganda. Bobi Wine beat President Museveni by a wide margin in that area. This hurt the NRM badly since they used to count on strong support from Buganda voters.

NRM officials met on Sunday in the Kyotera District for a big rally. Ministers, lawmakers, Deputy Secretary Rose Namayanja, and local leaders talked about what the government has done. They promoted President Museveni and NRM candidates for the next election. They listed achievements like building fifteen health centers, new SEED schools, and money programs such as Emyooga and Parish Development Model that give cheap loans.

Namayanja warned Buganda people they might fall behind other regions if they didn't back NRM. She said only NRM lawmakers can push for government services. She asked voters to pick hard-working representatives who fight for clean water, good roads, and better services. Former lawmaker Haruna Kasolo, who lost to NUP last time, promised more help if voters trusted NRM again. Many high-ranking officials attended, including several ministers and former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.
