NUP Leaders Defect to DF Party Citing Poor Leadership

Four top politicians from Teso switched parties and left the National Unity Platform. They decided to join the Democratic Front Party because they felt angry about bad leadership. The leaders said NUP bosses ignored their region and made decisions without asking them. They wrote a letter on June 21 to Mathias Mpuuga who runs the Democratic Front. The politicians complained that NUP treated Teso people unfairly.

Olukol Everest Awari leads the group and used to run NUP activities around Amuria District. Three other men joined him and signed the letter that explained their move. They want the Democratic Front to give Teso people real power inside the party. The group also asked for money to help them win elections. They need shirts and posters with the party name on them.

The politicians promised to help Democratic Front win seats on local councils and parliament. They said they want to make the party stronger across Uganda. Many people are changing political sides before the 2026 elections happen. Experts think this hurts NUP because they lose important supporters. The main opposition party faces growing problems as members complain about how leaders run things.
