Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru jailed six commissioners for bungling a deal to build 140 homes for the Izzo and Amaze communities. The police locked up Professor Omari Omaka, Victor Chukwu, Ifeanyi Ogbuewu, Uchenna Igwe, Moses Ekuma, and Felix Igboke. These officials ran the departments of Education, Environment, Tourism, Local Government, Health, and Project Watching. The governor also kicked Timothy Nwachi out of his job running the Afikpo area.
The state hunted down these officials before catching them. Ilang Donatus spoke for the governor at a news meeting in Abakaliki. He said the arrested people broke the rules of their agreement with the state. They failed to finish building houses that the governor wanted ready for his two-year job party. The slow work made the governor very mad.
Mr. Donatus explained that Governor Nwifuru really cares about people. He planned these houses for families hurt by local fights. The builders worked way behind schedule, forcing the governor to send cops after everyone in charge of checking the work progress. Mrs. Maria Okohu, who helps the governor talk to women, called this a direct attack against his plans.
The governor promises to keep arresting people until every official and builder answers for what happened. Police sent letters asking other missing commissioners and builders to talk. Some ran away when officials came looking for them at home. The governor wants the houses built fast because he cares about helping crisis victims in these communities.
