One driver on Seke Road leaves seventeen dead, faces homicide

Prosecutors have filed culpable homicide charges against the truck driver responsible for a fatal collision that claimed seventeen lives on Seke Road. The accused will face court proceedings in the coming days. Emergency responders recovered the bodies of ten women and seven men after the devastating crash occurred during early morning hours on July 22, 2025, at Hunyani Bridge near Water Works.

The thirty-tonne commercial vehicle struck two pedestrians before colliding with a Nissan Caravan kombi traveling from Harare toward Chitungwiza. Authorities report the truck driver lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic lanes. The massive vehicle overturned after impact and crushed the passenger bus beneath its weight.

Medical teams transported four injured survivors to Chitungwiza Hospital for emergency treatment. Three passengers from the kombi and one truck occupant survived the catastrophic accident. Police investigators determined that the truck driver's actions directly caused the multiple fatalities when his vehicle veered from the designated travel path.
