Papon mourns Zubeen Garg’s passing, calls for swift investigation

Singer Papon posted a heartfelt tribute message following the death of fellow artist Zubeen Garg. He shared an Instagram photograph with Garg and wrote words expressing his grief. Papon added text in his native Assamese language, requesting swift progress in the investigation. He asked authorities to provide answers about the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Zubeen Garg died on September 19 during a Singapore diving accident while attending the North East India festival. Emergency responders rescued him from the ocean waters and transported him to medical facilities. Hospital staff placed him under intensive care but could not save his life. The singer had promoted the upcoming festival through social media hours before his death.

Garg achieved nationwide recognition with his Bollywood song "Ya Ali" from the 2006 film Gangster. He created the album Xixhu after his sister Jongki Borthakur died in a 2002 car accident. Papon performs in multiple languages and leads the folk-fusion group Papon and The East India Company.
