Phony Goat Supplier Dupes Presidential Scheme

A key witness told Zimbabwe's High Court that a company paid to deliver goats never existed. The government made a deal with Blackdeck Livestock and Poultry Farming back in November 2021. Officials wanted the company to provide animals for a presidential program. Court records show the business was never registered anywhere.

Bevin Mutsikamabwe works as the main company checker at the Deeds Office. He searched through all official records but found nothing. The witness spoke during the fraud trial of Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu. Prosecutors say the two men stole over 7 million dollars from the goat program.

Court records do show that Blackdeck Private Limited was a real company. Officials registered that business on February 12, 2015. However, the farming company mentioned in the government contract was completely different. Mutsikamabwe could not find any trace of Blackdeck Livestock and Poultry Farming.

Defense lawyers pointed out that older laws did not require companies to register fake names. The witness agreed with this statement. The case centers around claims that the defendants used a fake company name to win a massive contract worth nearly 88 million dollars.
