Police are searching for those responsible for attempting to steal an underground electricity cable at Jalan Pedanum, Pakan, on Tuesday. Julau police chief DSP Alif Haiqal Ramesh Abdullah said the vandalism was discovered around 9 a.m. by a Sarawak Energy Berhad engineer during a routine inspection.
Initial investigations revealed the 240mm x 3C aluminum cable had been cut with a sharp object or grinder. However, the suspect fled before removing the cable, leaving its upper section attached to the pole.
The incident occurred about 15 kilometers from the Pakan Police Station in a remote area without street lights or CCTV cameras. Damage is estimated at RM4,000, and the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code.
