Presidency clarifies Nandi-Ndaitwah's work ethic remark

Namibia's State House has addressed a viral clip showing President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah discussing workplace absenteeism, stating her remarks were misrepresented when separated from their full context. The president had been speaking at a road construction ceremony in Kunene region when she stressed the importance of maintaining a strong work ethic among those employed on government infrastructure projects.

Officials clarified that Nandi-Ndaitwah was encouraging residents to take advantage of local job opportunities while emphasizing accountability among workers. Her comments addressed concerns about employees frequently missing work without legitimate medical justification, which can delay public works and harm communities depending on project completion.

The Presidency emphasized that the head of state never denied the reality of genuine illness but rather called for workers to demonstrate responsibility and avoid exploiting sick leave policies. Authorities requested that citizens view her complete address rather than judge her position based on abbreviated online footage.
