President Ditches Zoomlion Deal in Tender Shakeup

Government leaders changed how they award cleaning contracts across the country. Officials decided to split future deals among regions and districts instead of one massive national agreement. The new system aims to cut costs and push companies to compete harder for business. Leaders believe different firms will work better when they battle each other for jobs.

A reporter named Manasseh Azure Awuni asked officials to stop the old contract system. He wanted the government to end its deal with Zoomlion Ghana Limited under the Youth Employment Agency program. The presidential office agreed and said the expired 2024 contract would not continue. Auditors will check all money paid to Zoomlion after the contract ended.

Officials promised to review fumigation contracts that companies handled poorly. The Attorney-General will advise whether to cancel these agreements completely. Workers who sweep streets will receive higher pay under the new plans. The government wants to give them enough money to live better lives. Regional competition should improve services for everyone who needs waste collection.
