Qualcomm plans to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 mobile processor, a more affordable alternative to its flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Manufacturing will utilize TSMC's 3-nanometer fabrication technology.
The system-on-chip will feature prime cores operating at 3.80 gigahertz alongside performance cores running at 3.32 gigahertz, according to specifications shared through Chinese social media platform Weibo. Leaker Digital Chat Station indicates the architecture includes two prime cores and six performance cores, mirroring the configuration found in the Elite variant but with reduced clock speeds of approximately 17.5 percent for prime cores and 8.5 percent for performance cores.
The lower frequencies may address thermal concerns reported with the Elite model while maintaining competitive performance capabilities. Manufacturers, including OnePlus, Vivo and others, are expected to incorporate the processor into upcoming smartphone releases such as the Ace 6T, S50 and X Fold 6 models.
